About Us
The AIDS Mission Outreach Trust is a FAITH BASED, non-governmental organization
The seed for the vision of a care center for children abandoned or orphaned because of HIV/AIDS, was planted in December of 1997. As statistics of AIDS orphans were released to the public through the media, it was apparent that none, or very little provision was being made to tend to the children who would remain after the death of their HIV/AIDS infected parents. AIDS Mission Outreach Trust (AIDSMO) embarked on a programme to meet these children’s needs - “Lebone House”!! (Lebone means “LIGHT” in Sesotho). Lebone House was established in May 2000 and initially opened its doors as a day care facility for HIV/AIDS infected/affected children.
At Lebone we aim to provide the children with a loving environment, where we care for their physical needs – love, acceptance, a safe environment, clothing, food, education, medical care etc. – from the time the child is accepted at Lebone House and for the duration of his or her life as a child. The child is deemed to be an adult on his/her eighteenth birthday, all to be admitted to the programme on the basis of their need. No means test is required and no fee is charged.
THE VISION EXPANDED & GREW ………..
Ten years on bears witness of God’s greatness when one sees the miracles that have occurred: the acquisition of our own property; more than six times the children; an Education Centre for Lebone children & day scholars from the community; a skills development centre for the upliftment and empowerment of family members of the children & the poor & needy; more than half the property under agricultural production enabling the feeding of 600+ people as well as generating income for Lebone; a counselling, social support & training section. ALL this enlarging the vision given us and sure proof that Lebone has been able to accomplish more that it undertook to do within 5 years. Proof indeed of the abundance & grace of our faithful God who has provided through so many who have been obedient to His Call - proof indeed of how mere mortals have been able to attempt something large enough that failure is guaranteed ……… UNLESS GOD STEPS IN.
1 Lebone House
Lebone House is a holistic care centre for children affected by HIV/AIDS which embraces, affirms and adheres to all aspects of their human rights. Because we believe that each child has a right to live within their own family, culture and community Lebone House strives to provide an alternative setting that approximates that of their own family when there is no family. 74 orphans & vulnerable children are cared for in two houses on the property – Maersk House & Rist House.
2 Lebone Edu-Centre
Educates the children at Lebone House, from birth to school-leaving age; through a pre-school centre with after-school facility for school-going children. We have 37 children from the community as day scholars at the pre-school centre (who all enjoy the benefits of Lebone House children – 3 meals a day, clothing, medication, etc) who are unable to access education due to poverty.
3 Lebone Agricultural Production & Nursery
In this section we have 11 hectare land, a suspension net of 2500 sq m & a tunnel under vegetables, from which we feed +-600 people as well as generate a small income. The nursery produces seedlings for our vegetable production as well as some for selling and for the trainees who are helped to start their own vegetable garden at their home. We also propagate indigenous trees to sell.
4 Lebone Skills Development Centre
This center has fifteen sections where 74 – 100 people are empowered with a skill & thereby given the opportunity to generate an income.
5 Lebone Training & Counselling Centre:
This section does basic HIV/AIDS education and home based care, community based orphan care and support; pastoral, bereavement, grief, pre- & post- test counselling. We have food and clothing banks which support this programme. We also provide social support in the form of facilitating workshops between Department of Home Affairs and the community where the people are assisted with applications for ID Documents, Birth Certificates, Pensions & Grants
